Sophia Business Angels announces Winners of its "Europe-China GreenTech" International Venture Academy
30 June, Sophia Antipolis: The Sophia Business Angels are very pleased to announce the Winners of its "GreenTech" International Venture Academy on 25 June. The event, which was held in partnership with SKEMA, EBAN, the BGTA, the Europe-China Green Corridor, the Shanghai Green Technology Bank, brought together 10 top entrepreneurs active in Green Tech together with Angel Investors, VC's and Green-Tech funds from Europe, the USA, and China.
The winners, who will benefit from investment as well as coaching, mentoring and accompaniment from the Sophia Business Angels and their partners, are:
Most Investable Company: France-USA based Interstellar Labs that develops environmentally controlled modules for sustainable farming on Earth and life-support in space, with Avignon (France) based Azuvia, an environmental biotechnology company working in the field of water filtration and de-pollution using 100% ecological processes as runner-up.
Best Presentation: Amsterdam-based SkyTree, whose technology revolves around scalable, carbon removal products that increase power efficiency whilst improving air quality.
Best Team: Milan-based Energy Dome: technology enables to store large quantities of renewable energy efficiently and be cost effective.
Most improved Presentation: Stockholm-based Stockholm Water Technology, bringing Sustainability to Water Treatment through producing electricity mediated water purification and storing energy while cleaning water. The Most Improved Presentation award goes to the company who, during the course of the Venture Academy was able to assimilate and execute in a very short time (two hours) the feedback and advice from the expert coaches participating in the SBA IVA).
Keynote Speakers: The SBA IVA always includes experts from around the world to speak about and inspire both the entrepreneurs, investors and audience alike about the topic at hand. Paul Polman: Paul is Co-founder and Chair of IMAGINE, a social venture accelerating business leadership to achieve the Global Goals. He is also Chair Emeritus of the International Chamber of Commerce, The B Team, Saïd Business School and The Valuable 500, and Vice-Chair of the U.N. Global Compact. He was CEO of Unilever for a decade where he demonstrated that a long-term, multi-stakeholder model goes hand-in-hand with good financial performance. During his tenure, Unilever was one of the best-performing companies in its sector, delivering ten years of consistent top and bottom-line growth.
Dr. Christine Poncet: Christine is the Co-founder of MYCOPHYTO SAS and the Associate Director Joint Technological Unit at FioriMed. Christine’s research work focuses on the greenhouse system analysis and the design of innovative, more environmentally friendly cropping. She has aimed at a collaborative approach via ongoing improvement which is based on an interdisciplinary cooperation and the involvement of agricultural and economic stakeholders.
Philippe Bardey: Philippe is the President of ACRI since 1989 and the President of the Board of Sophia-Antipolis Polytech Engineering school since 2018.He became a registered Professional Engineer in California 1981, with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (California Institute of Technology) 1977.
Juliana Garaizar: Juliana Garaizar, Vice President if Innovation at GreenTown Labs, is an experienced global executive and general manager with demonstrated success working with entrepreneurs in angel investment, venture capital and private equity across multiple industry sectors including medtech, cleantech, fintech, consumer and impact.
The SBA IVA has as its goal to expose promising Scale-Ups to investors and partners around the world. 45 % of all entrepreneurial companies who participate in the SBA IVA receive investment within 2 - 3 years of participating at the SBA IVA, recognizing that the investment process, as opposed to grants, involves creating a long-term relationship between entrepreneurs and investors.
